The Well-deserved Release

The weight of words, a worn-out plea,

Justifications thin as air,

We’ve come to know what you can’t see,

The truth we silently held there.

We were the stage where you could stand,

The sounding board for your demands,

A mirror held within our hand,

To reflect the respect you command.

But we have found a kinder space,

A truer worth we now can claim,

In gentle eyes and an embrace,

From those who choose us just the same.

So when we don’t turn up or speak,

When we don’t offer our reply,

It is the answer that you seek,

A quiet, firm and final goodbye.

For we reached our point, the final toll,

And in that silence, we chose peace.

We claimed our lives, we made us whole,

And found our well-deserved release.
